As We Begin a New Year, We Pray

Happy New Year! 2026 is here.

As we step into 2026, we want to begin the year the way Jesus taught us with prayer.

When Jesus looked at the crowds, Scripture tells us that “He had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.” Then He said to His disciples:

“The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into His harvest field.”
~ Matthew 9:36–38

Prayer is not secondary to the work of the gospel; it is absolutely foundational.

As a community of supporters and prayer partners, we are deeply grateful for the ways you have stood with Global Disciples through prayer, generosity, and encouragement.

As we begin this new year together, we invite you to join us in praying specifically for workers in the harvest: for disciple-makers, church planters, and local believers who are faithfully sharing the gospel among the least-reached.

As you prepare to pray for the disciple-makers this month, we wanted to take a moment to pray over you.

Our great and gracious God,

As we stand at the beginning of a new year, we ask that You would go before us and abide with us in all that lies ahead.

We thank You that You have carried us to this moment through joys and through trials, through days when Your nearness was deeply felt and days when it seemed harder to see. Yet we praise You that You have never left Your people, nor failed to keep Your promises.

As this year unfolds, remind us that every moment rests securely in Your hands. Give us confidence to walk forward in Your peace, trusting You with what we cannot yet see.

Draw us into a closer walk with You in the days ahead. Holy Spirit, shape our hearts, refine our desires, and help us to live lives yielded fully to Jesus Christ, ready to be, to go, and to do whatever You may ask.

We pray especially for the work of Your kingdom around the world. Raise up workers for the harvest. Strengthen those who are already serving. Give courage to those planting churches, making disciples, and proclaiming the gospel in difficult places.

Have mercy, Lord, on those who do not yet know You. May this new year mark the beginning of new life for many through the powerful work of Your Holy Spirit, who convicts hearts, brings new birth, and draws people to repentance and faith.

We place this year, and all those upon our hearts, into Your loving care. May your Kingdom come and your Will be done.

For Jesus’ sake,
Amen.

As you pray this month, I’d love for you to download our January Prayer Calendar — it’s full of specific ways you can stand with leaders and churches around the world.
